:) Hello everyone, this question is for New Hampshire JP's. Has anyone married a couple who resides in Maine in New Hampshire ? Did you have any trouble with marrying the Maine couple here in New Hampshire being not in their jurisdiction? I have a wedding booked for July 2010, the couple is from Maine and would like to marry in New Hampshire, didn't know if it would be considered null and void.

Thanks,
Carol

I had the same situation a few times. The Secretary of State's office confirmed that the couple can come from any other state. As long as they go to the city clerk's office in NH and get their marriage license, they can be married in NH.

Hope this helps.

As long as the marriage or civil union is legal in the state where they live IE: Man & Man or Man and Woman , or Woman & Woman it will be Legal.
If it is not legal for a civil union in Maine and the couple comes to NH. The state where they live will not recognize it as being legal and it would not be legal to preform or issue the license in NH as well. Other than that Anybody can come to NH get a license and get married right away.If Either of the couple has been married before they would need to bring a certified copy of the divorce decree or death certificate with them when they come for the license it has to have the raised Seal on it .

Hello! I'm about to perform a wedding for a same-sex couple from Florida (where same-sex marriages are not recognized). They arrived in New Hampshire this week, and were issued their NH marriage license without any problems. As I understand it, here in New Hampshire their marriage will be legal, and that will be true in any other state where same sex marriage is recognized. Unfortunately, however, their marriage will not be recognized in the state where they reside.
Hope that helps!
