Hello,

Does anyone have any experience with the JP renewal process in Massachusetts? What happens after the seven years are up? Is it as difficult to be renewed as it is to become a JP initially?

I would appreciate any comments. I have several years to go, but I am very curious.

Thanks.

Curt

We received this response from Ronald Marcella, JP in Dalton, Massachusetts:

To be reappointed as a Justice of the Peace in Massachusetts one goes through the reappointment process from the beginning as if applying for the first time, there is no guarantee of a reappointment. The only difference is that the Governor sends you an application thirty days before your appointment ends. The MJPA has championed a bill before the Legislators to extend the time from the current thirty days to sixty days.

I agree that the process is difficult and you are not guaranteed a reappointment. I was told in the beginning by the "appointing authority" that "just because there is a vacancy does not mean that we will FILL it". It was a difficult process. We are all hoping that the 60 day bills passes. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
